About Claire Bolay
Claire Bolay has always drawn. It is a true passion for painting and drawing that drives this artist to pursue art studies for several years. This allows her to develop her own technique, her style and her path.
She illustrated, with India ink drawings, her husband's poetic work.
But what she loves above all is color, it is colors, multiple, subtle, nuanced or vivid. Oil, which she enhances with natural pigments, allows her to express her impressions powerfully: colors and light. That is the essential: to convey reflections and shadows, to restore the glow of sunset, to recreate an atmosphere, to pay homage to Light. A strong line, the audacity of contrasts, the vigor of the knife on canvas characterize her painting. Playing with the thickness of the material to render the transparency of water, that is the challenge. Nature inspires her, the Lavaux vineyards, the mountains and valleys of the Vaud Prealps, the shores of Lake Geneva and the banks of the Rhone. The line and color do not speak of reality, but of the effect that a ray of light or a cast shadow provoke in the artist, wonder and emotion.
