About Pierre-Yves Gabioud

Pierre-Yves Gabioud was born in Praz-de-Fort in February 1953. He completed an apprenticeship as a decorator in Sion, while officiating as a drummer in the blues-jazz-rock formation "La Faune". He made a forest retreat and lived 15 years in different groups of the Friedrichshof community in Switzerland, Austria and the Canary Islands. He has been back in the country since 1995.

His training includes art history, theater, dance, performance. He also studied actional analysis and painting with Otto Muehl, Austrian painter and actionist in Vienna. He performed in Switzerland and Austria and participated in the creations of different theater groups in Switzerland, as well as in several art films at Friedrichshof. From 1989, he devoted himself exclusively to the study of painting, as a self-taught artist.

Several prizes have rewarded his career:

  • Art-en-Ciel Prize, Neuchâtel (2003)

  • Entremont Prize, Le Châble (2007)
